Reflections From The Bible And Life

Life-Giving Touch

Genesis 28:10-22; Psalm 91:1-4, 14-15; Matthew 9:18-26

The power of human touch is really amazing. A gentle pat on the back, a hug, or a back rub brings warmth to the person being touched. Just a simple gesture assures a person of God’s love. Studies show that people who are touched feel much better after. Spiritually, it is better too, for we are reminded that God exists, and that He’s with us.

There are many people who don’t have the opportunity to feel God’s love for they feel like they are garbage because no on is brave enough to touch them. Some of these people are people who dwell in the streets and don’t have the privilege to take regular baths, nor eat 3 square meals a day. They need love just as we do, no matter how dirty or different they are.

I see touching as extensions of Jesus‘ powerful healing hands that healed sickness and gave life to the dead. While it may mean nothing much to us and doesn’t take much from us, it heals broken wounds, and affirms God love to others. It has the same healing abilities since it comes from God as well.

If we can heal others with our touch, we should do so. It’s a way of spreading God’s love to others.
