Reflections From The Bible And Life

Inner Joy

Acts 1:15-17, 20-26; Psalm 113:1-8; John 15:9-17;

What make you us happy? There are material things that make us happy, and yet we feel empty. Things like cars, houses, drinking sessions with friends, etc. Sure we may be happy at that moment, but that happiness doesn’t last long, especially if we have no one to share these things with. This kind of happiness has a saturation point, meaning you easily get over it once you had your fill of it. The feeling doesn’t last long. Moreover, it leaves an empty feeling once you’ve reached the saturation point, and so you start looking for other material things to tickle your senses.

Let’s take the example of a brand new car. Normally you are very excited about your car when it’s still brand new. Once the car ages over the years, the excitement and exhilaration over the car is gone, unlike when it was new. That is because beyond the point of having that car, there was nothing else. True happiness and inner peace doesn’t come from things of this world nor human ideologies. True happiness and inner peace comes from Jesus’ preachings as well as from the wise words written in the bible.

Jesus gave us one simple commandment to follow, which is the replacement for the 10 commandments since it summarizes the 10 commandments: “This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. No one has greater love than this, to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.” (John 15:12-13) If we follow this simple rule, we are automatically following the 10 commandments already. Jesus is telling us to love one another more than we love ourselves, for that is exactly how Jesus loved us in His life here on earth. He sacrificed Himself for our sake. He wants us to be like Him. Jesus had said these things to us so that His joy may be in us, and that our joy may be complete. Once we can be like Him and abandon everything that we value so much here on earth, we can be at peace and find true happiness that will last a lifetime!!!

Jesus values us as His friends that’s why He told us everything there is to know. We are not His servants, but friends. We did not choose Him but He chose us. He chose us to bear fruit that will last a lifetime, for He loves us and wants us to be happy.

Are you ready to be happy and find inner peace? Start loving everyone!
